LG Cellphone ebook reader running on Java ME / J2ME

I've found a couple of excellent free Java ME / J2ME ebook readers that will run on LG GD570. Copy .jar (optional .jad) file to phone using bluetooth or USB cable and install from menu items (6) media > (9) file manager or (8) Other Files. Run from (6) Media > (7) Games & Apps.
Albite (Bulgaria) [2011]
  • Open source.
  • Works with EPUB, txt and (x)html files.
  • anti-aliased bitmap font in four sizes with over 850 glyphs, including latin, cyrillic and greek
  • hyphenation for 29 languages
  • 23 character encodings, including UTF-8 and most of ISO-8859 and Windows-125x
  • animated touch-guided scrolling

Anyview (Chinese) [2010]
    It can read files of type TXT, HTML and PDB* format as well as display GIF, JPEG and PNG files.
    Anyview handles following formats: TXT: UNICODE support HTML: Currently can only read HTML as TXT. Being worked on to improve. PDB:Currently only supports TEXt / PDB REAd types of documents UMD:Currently only supports comic UMD format document PNG:Supported JPEG: more than 100K JPEG decoders included.     Shortcut

    2/8/4/6/5 used like up/down/left/right/ok

    In menu: number is shortcut for menu item command.

    Reading TXT:1 Add bookmark, 3 Scroll, 7 Jump, 9 Search, 0 revert color or change profile(when profiles > 1)

    File explorer: 0 to up folder

    Customize keymap: Link or select Other keymap to set values using interactive forms

    dc@ Only HTML reader support with working links. Renders 'hr' tag properly. Problem in line breaking and word spacing, missing most features available for txt viewing such as rotation and autoscroll. Does not decode most HTML entities (ie ‘). I wrote a script to covert html entities in an html file to standard chars: Link.

Foliant (Russian)
    is a custom GUI graphics heavy library-reader for mobile phones with support for Java. Its main function is to organize your collection of books and comfortable reading. It supports TXT and FB2 formats and has Unicode capability. dc@ I have screen refresh problems with autoscroll and rotation.

  • Formats: Directly opens TXT and FB2 from phone flash card. FB2 format supports images Other formats (HTML, PDF, MS Word) are supported via Shell usage and converted to plain text (HTML images are shown if converting via Shell).
  • Text orientation: displays rotated text (clockwise, contr-clockwise) - hold your phone as it suits you best.

    dc@ mentioned on Anyview translator's thread. Seems to be only in chinese.
Calibre [2011]
    by Kovid Goyal, utility for working with ebooks including file transfer to the SONY Reader and many, *many* other reading devices. Uses Python. For Windows/Linux/OSX. Can convert HTML, TXT, RTF, LIT and PDF files to LRF and all other popular e-book formats, such as epub, lit, fb2, mobi, rtf, txt, pdb and others. Also has utilities to download websites and automatically convert them to e-book formats.
